Duet Coach Barak Soreff is part of the PIONEERS Run Crew, a Dorchester-based running group dedicated to creating a diverse and welcoming running community in Boston.
On October 9th, the group organized an alternative event to the Boston Marathon: “26.TRUE OUR CITY OUR WAY”. The traditional Boston Marathon actually only has about 1.5 miles of its course in Boston. The 26:TRUE course (designed by Barak) actually brings runner through Boston’s diverse and vibrant neighborhoods.

Five Questions with Duet’s Senior Coach for Student Engagement Saira!
Duet team member Saira is a former camp leader and licensed clinical social worker with a passion for creating community and bringing people together in fun and creative ways. You’ll be hearing a lot from her as a Duet student or alumni! Here are five questions to help you get to know Saira a little better.
1. If you could do anything for a day, what would you do?
I'd love to spend a day cooking new recipes, building things, creating artwork with a good playlist in the background.
2. Where is your favorite place to visit?
Right now, I would say that my favorite place to visit would be anywhere my niece is. My niece Bradie is 3 years old and she has so much personality and energy. She loves to play hide and go seek and is really creative when it comes to imaginative play. When I get the opportunity to spend time with her we always have a great time and great laughs.
3. If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I'm a huge foodie so this is a hard question to answer. If I had to choose a meal for the rest of my life it would have to be beer-battered fish tacos - they're so light, flavorful, and filling. My favorite taqueria right now is Yellowdoor in Lower Mills. If you go make sure you try their fish tacos!
4. What's one thing you can't live without?
One thing I can't live without is paper and a pen. I know with so much technology there is often no need for a pad and pen but I find writing things down versus typing them to be more therapeutic. I enjoy journaling, sketching, and making lists and there's a satisfaction that comes with transferring those things onto paper that doesn't happen for me with typing. Give me a paper and pen and I feel like I can take on the world.
5. What's your favorite thing about working at Duet?
My favorite thing about working at Duet is connecting and working with students. Each of our students comes to Duet with a unique and powerful story and I enjoy hearing those stories and supporting our students in reaching their academic goals. Our students’ commitment to their families, their careers, their goals, and degree inspires me every day to do my very best.
Alumni Shoutouts
Recent SNHU & Duet graduates share their thoughts and some special shoutouts now that they’ve finished their degree!
Djigui
“My experience at Duet has been nothing but amazing. At first, coming in I did not know what to expect because I knew it was not going to be like the "normal" college experience. Despite that, I got to meet some of the best people ever. A special shoutout to my high school college counselor for introducing me to Duet. And also my Duet coach Cesar Batista who made my time there very outstanding, and meaningful!”
We’re enrolling now for January and February 2022.
