Earning Your SNHU Degree, Your Way

Davon Harris, SNHU and Duet

Like most college graduates, Davon’s path to a degree was not straightforward. He had tried his local college when he was younger and SNHU online as an adult. It wasn’t until he returned to SNHU through Duet that he found an approach that fit into his life and led to a degree.

After starting his career in the Air Force, Davon pivoted to a successful role in IT as a federal contractor.

It was during that time that Von first enrolled at SNHU. At first, he was able to keep up with the course work. But as he entered his second year he was working 50 hours a week, his family was pulling for his attention and he struggled to meet the strict weekly deadlines and discussion boards requirements time proved difficult. He decided to leave school, and after not fitting online college into his life, had begun to wonder if it could ever really work for him.

Then an Instagram post about Duet caught his eye. Duet sounded too good to be true, but he was curious. The idea of earning credits at his own pace by working on projects, felt made for someone like him.

It turned out online education could work for him. He just hadn’t found the right version of it yet. Now he had.

The flexibility to go hard on coursework when life allowed and pull back when it didn't made all the difference to Davon. And his Duet coach Val was relentless in the best way, calling, encouraging, and keeping him moving even when he almost stopped his degree after being affected by federal staff reductions.

"If I hadn’t had a coach I would have given up. I needed the momentum to push through, and the connection."

Same SNHU degree. Different path.

Now with his Bachelor's in hand, Von is looking ahead — exploring small business ideas and keeping law school on the horizon.
