He Started Unsure. He Finished With a Degree.
When Amare graduated high school in 2022, he wasn’t sure what college would look like—but he knew he wanted to keep moving forward.
After a difficult year and a half of online learning in high school during the pandemic, with full days in front of a Zoom screen on a fixed schedule, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to take college classes online or in-person.
That’s when a family member told him about Duet. Just days after graduation, he enrolled in his first college class.
The steady encouragement he received from Duet’s coaching team was invaluable. His coach Luis kept him motivated and on track. And since the course work was flexible, he no longer had the pressure of fitting school into a rigid routine. Whether it was 4 p.m. or 2 a.m., Amare could study on his own schedule.
“Learning online through Duet was a lot better for me than learning online in high school because I could study when it worked for me,” Amare said.
After earning his AA, Amare decided to try an on-campus bachelor’s program. But within a semester, he felt the difference. He realized how much he missed the structure and support of Duet. He returned—and hit the ground running. Just eight months later, he crossed the finish line with his bachelor’s degree in hand.
“Learning online through Duet was a lot better for me than learning online in high school because I could study when it worked for me.”
“When I finished my last project, I didn’t realize it at first,” he said. “And then, it was just a sense of relief.”
At 22, Amare is proud to be debt-free and ready for his next chapter—launching a career in logistics. The practical skills and content that were built into his curriculum gave him confidence that he has the skills to contribute and add value in the field from day one.
His advice for anyone considering Duet?
“Please come—just come on!”
